Our History ...
The Nitterhouse companies were originally started as Nitterhouse
Concrete Products in 1923 by William L. Nitterhouse (great-
grandfather to Karen Nitterhouse Diller), who was succeeded by
current Chairman of the Board, William K. Nitterhouse.
When annual production of conventional and specialty block
products exceeded production capacity during the 1990's,
Nitterhouse Masonry Products was formed as a separate company to handle the block production, as well as architectural brick and a wide variety of hardscape products.
In addition to Plant #1, Nitterhouse Masonry subsequently built a two-machine plant on a 40-acre site adjacent to sister company, Nitterhouse Concrete Products. Known as the Guilford Plant, this
facility first started production in 1997 with a Besser Ultrapac
machine providing much needed capacity to keep pace with
retaining-wall unit demand. A Dynapac machine was added in 2001, enabling support of a full program of conventional, architectural and half-high CMU, standard concrete and split NiCrete brick, Allan Block products, and Guilford Stone precast veneer (one of several
proprietary products produced exclusively by Nitterhouse).
Allan Block retaining wall block is the only outside brand Nitterhouse Masonry produces. The company became a licensee in 1989 and now sells the Allan Block line in all but five Pennsylvania counties, throughout Maryland, and three-quarters of Virginia, including the Virginia Beach/Tidewater market.
The company is now transitioning into its fifth-generation
management with son, Matt Diller, heading up a separate company that produces a wet-cast veneer stone product line known as
Handcrafted Veneer Stone in addition to other precast products.
